An artist, photographer, musician and craftsman since childhood, Michael Long found an affinity for hairstyling by coincidence. While studying fine art, he decided to explore hairdressing as a means to fund his college education in art and design. He trained in NYC with creative directors from Toni and Guy, Vidal Sassoon, and Bumble and Bumble at Cutler on 57th and then spent three years assisting and traveling the globe with leading British hairdresser Guido Palau. He began his own independent freelance career in New York, where he gained recognition for his work in fashion editorial and advertising.

In 2010, Michael relocated to Los Angeles where he works regularly with commercial clients, fashion publications and celebrities here and abroad as well as serving client’s within the salon.

Michael currently resides in a small bungalow in Highland Park. Working tirelessly out of his one car garage turned studio, he creates works of art, builds wigs, records music and takes photos in an effort to contribute to the constantly evolving sphere of collective culture.
